Host Files
Using a Host file is an alternate way of resolving domain names.
The host file is a text file in the user's System Folder which
contains information about hosts on the network, such as a host
name and its IP address, or a host name and its alias.
Here's an example of the syntax used for the host file:
nametypedata;comment, preceded by semicolon
For example:
To activate use of a hosts file, the file should first be created,
then selected from the TCP/IP cdev, when in either administrator
or advanced mode.
Using a hosts file for name resolution is less desirable than
using DNS because it is more difficult to manage: every user would
need to have the host file locally, and update the file whenever
changes were made.
